Detection of the un-coded lens as the incorrect code, hence the wrong
firmware correction of the image. That may or not matter. A screw head can
cause this. That would obviously only happen with some lenses. However I
have also seen it with temporary coding added, as the ink wore off unevenly.
I found that the ink could also be deposited across the detection window
too, causing intermittent errors with properly modified, temporarily coded
and completely uncoded lenses.

what sort of errors? I have a coded 21/2.8, but my 35, 50 and 90mm lenses
are not coded. I keep lens detection on, but have not noticed any 'errors'
so far. Other than my own, of course.
