Hi Rob,

I had this surgery at a very good hand surgery center in Brussels in  
early 2000, and as far as I remember, it took about a week to recover.  
You will definitely be back on the bike by March.

In my case it was the left hand, and I am right-handed, so it did not  
crimp my photography at all (how the hell I acquired carpal tunnel  
syndrome on the hand that I do NOT use with the mouse etc. is another  
good question).

There was no mention of physical therapy, and I did not have to do  
anything special, just wait. However, perhaps that is because they  
knew that it was my "passive" hand and so the fact that I have lost  
some muscle strength in it was of no consequence in daily life. Had it  
been my right hand, they might well have suggested something.
