In Laney's Collector's Guide (2005) I find the following.

"Only one black M2-R, No 1,207,000, was made by Weltzar, in 1968. A
black example which apperared at auction, No 1,248,646, was a chrome
one rebuilt in the U.S.A. with a black chrome top plate and other
parts supplied in error."

> The Leica Pocket Book, 7th edition, describes M2Rs as follows:
>
> "1966 US Army issue designated M2S have M4 three prong rapid load system,
> later sold by E Leitz Rockleigh USA designated M2R, from 1969-1970 numbers
> 1248201 - 1250200"
>
> This is followed by the sentence "1968 one only black paint finish number
> 1207000", which I find ambiguous as I can't tell if it refers to the M2R or
> some other version of the M2.
>
> As always, the key thing to find out is the serial number.
