Hi Doug, wow that is really striking plumage. Certainly deserves its name.
These two shots are immaculately exposed. I don't see how you could do
anything better technically there. The second shot is my favourite with a
little more 'pop' from the brighter light. Also the bird is in a little more
dynamic pose, being not perfectly in profile. What makes it for me though is
that characteristic sky reflection in the wake. I've noted that effect in
your shots before.
Fabulous work from you, each one a treasure.

I visited the American River fish hatchery today where a male Cinnamon Teal
seems to have settled for the winter on one of the hatchery's settling
ponds.  I sat quietly for a few hours to let him get comfortable with me at
close range:
