I agree, particularly if the user has the option not go into the menu.
I do not believe anyone is suggesting the removal of the six bit
system, rather an option to facilitate non six bit lenses, including
non six bit Leica lenses. If you have a six bit lens or are not
concerned about the absence of six bits on the lens then you can
ignore the menu option. The firmware can assume a six bit lens is
attached unless the user chooses to override that assumption. Only
those wishing to exploit the option would have the responsibility to
use it appropriately when switching lenses. Surely the real reason
Leica do not wish to implement this option is their concern we users
will move to Zeiss or VG lenses or use our older Leica lenses and not
buy new Leica glass. I understand this maybe a good business model for
Leica but I still believe it would be a desirable feature for users.
