I see and appreciate the smiley Walt.

In reality every digital camera comes with some sort of post  
processing software.
So, no you don't need Photoshop - except for very heavy lifting.

I'd always recommend Light Room as the first app to purchase for  
handling digital files.
If you run into something it won't do - well lots of alternative -  
including Photoshop.

In point of fact you could also hand your cards to a "lab" and tell  
them to transfer your images to a CD and/or print them.

so it's a little like saying, "if you shoot film you better have a  
darkroom."
not necessarily so - lots of choices in today's photo world
