I had some of the greatest days skiing there, ever. About 1968 3
friends and I arrived after a couple of weeks of storms causing the
gondola to be closed.

It's about 1200m vertical on the gondola, and one of the areas it
opens up is a scree slope about 5 to 8 hundred meters wide and 750m
vertical. Due to the storm no one had been able to ski it for a
number of weeks.

The day we came it was clear and calm, and I don't think I ever had
to cross anyone else's tracks. It took 7 minutes for the gondola to
go to the top, and I could ski the 1200m down in 7 minutes and be
ready for the same gondola.

With a minimal break for lunch (about 7 minutes to buy something) I
skied about 40,000m vertical that day, I think the most I've ever
done and almost all powder that flowed over my shoulders. Heaven on
earth indeed.
