By way of example, I am currently reading Carlos
d'Este's WARRIOR: A LIFE OF WINSTON CHURCHILL AT
WAR 1874 - 1945. I will write a review of this
for several maritime and military history lists

I learnt a little something about the man last week in Italy when I was
disentangling myself from my ski clothing. The Italian version of "Who wants
to be a Millionaire" was on the television and the question was "What did
Wintson Churchill's tattoo depict?". The choice was a siren, a dragon, an
anchor, or a crown. It turned out to be an anchor.

Now that I'm back on the shores of the Emerald Isle, I looked it up and see
that not only did WC have an anchor on his arm, but his mother Jennie had a
snake tattooed on her wrist. Tramp stamping seems to have been in vogue for
a long time.

I will resist having "I Leica M3" tattooed on mine........
