Chicago does indeed have a U-boat. You can read the story here

Oddly enough, until recently the Chicago area was also the home of an
anti-submarine Naval Air Station. It was very effective - as far as I
know, no enemy submarines other than the U-505 ever attacked the
Chicago area.
