Subject: [Leica] Sensor just replaced

I had sent my M8 back to Stan Tamarkin for service. I kept finding a
vertical line in the upper or bottom half of my images using higher
ISOs. It became too much too ignore. After 4 weeks, I just received
the camera back. The line is gone and there is a greater clarity in
general to the images. Less muddy, more detail. I called Leica in
NJ to find out what was done. They confirmed they replaced the sensor
and brought the camera up to specifications. I'm sure this was not an
inexpensive repair for Leica but they stood behind their warranty.
I'm always an early adopter of technology. I went through some issues
early on and even returned my first M8 due to really lousy imaging
even with an IR filter.

If and when the new M9 arrives, I'm going to take a deep breath and
just observe. No need to jump into the fray so early this time
around. I suspect there will be early issues, a few firmware updates
and then hopefully a Leica with even better imaging characteristics
than the M8. I hope the M8 is not the end of the line for Leica.

Happy shooting,

Richard
