When I was learning to drive in Germany in the early 1960's,  HALT! meant
STOP!, except on U.S. military bases, where STOP! meant HALT!.  In the
Netherlands, LET OP! meant SLOW DOWN!

"Was ist los?" meant the same thing as "Whereyat" does in N'orlins.
