Some cameras, for instance the excellent Yashica fixed-lens rangefinders (like the GSN or GX), can take the extra voltage of the alternative cells without any metering problems, but Leica cameras like the SL, SL2, CL and M5 (and the Leicameter) and the tiny Rollei 35 cameras will only meter correctly with Wein Cells, adjusted electronics or voltage reduction adapter cells like the MR9. Because they run down pretty quickly, the Wein Cells are only worth the money if you are thinking of using the camera constantly. It may be cheaper in the long-run to have the camera tweaked so it can use the alkaline or silver equivalents of the old 625 cells. A repair shop in Braunschweig will, for example, adjust the electronics of Rollei 35 cameras for around 30 euros, but I unfortunately don't know what it costs to have Leicas adjusted. If you need replacements for the cells in a Gossen Lunasix 3, Gossen makes an adapter that takes lithium or silver cells (although rumour has it that it is not a perfect solution - I've had no problems with it so far, though).
