Lack of basic exercise, availability of cheap high fat, high sugar
food, meat product etc.

For example, in Japan, they consume lots of rice, but they have to
walk everywhere, even transfer from one station to another could be
brisk 10 mins walk. It adds up. Sushi is a occasion food they eat may
be once or twice a week. In here, sushi lovers would eat sushi
everyday.

Here, Americans would circle the parking lots a few times to get as
close to the store door as possible.

It's a rule of thumb of "immigrant tax," ex-pat gain about 10 pounds
for every 10 years they live in the US, comparing to the people
staying in the old country. The Burritos here are full of stuff, much
richer than the ones in Mexico.

etc. etc.
