As others have mentioned, check which software version you have. Some other 
thoughts:

 

I fully charged the battery fro my M9 when I got it having read that the M8 
was sensitive to batteries that were not fully charged on initial use.

 

Leica recommends only a couple brands of SD cards for their digital M's. I 
found with my loaner M9 in Seattle that it would not work with a 
non-recommended card brand that another Lugger loaned me to us. Worked just 
fine with the recommended two brands though.
