Mark,

If you offer me "half" of your piece of pie
I'd feel disappointed if you kept more than two thirds for yourself.
;~)

24 x 36 = 864 sq mm
half = 432 sq mm
18 x 24 = 432 sq mm
so in the case of "half frame"
the use of "half" works.

in the case of
DX 1.5 crop vs 4/3's 2x crop
DX 1.5 crop = 22.5 x 15.8 = 355.5 square millimeter acreage
4/3's 2x crop = 18 x 13.5 = 243 square millimeters

355.5 sq mm cut in half = 177.75 sq mm (not 243 sq mm)

4/3's = DX cut by .6838
not by .5

I choose to play this game with you
because you seem to believe that every sq mm is vitally important.
(and as I too would like to afford maximum acreage to film or sensor)
If so; then, when discussing fractions,
the difference between factors of .5 and .6838
would also seem to matter.
