Used judiciously, every tool can be beneficial.
As an example, notice the line down the middle of this photograph:

My M8 shutter would?occasionally "stick". I love this image, but hate the 
line down the middle caused by the camera malfunction. The PS healing brush 
helps a bit. The newer tool shown in this video would help much more.
I agree that drastic manipulation isn't what I want either; but improvements 
in tools can help in many non-drastic?corrections (minor lens flare comes to 
mind also).
So I'm excited. Obviously, YMMV.

Seems fairly disgusting.? I guess some people aren't content to be 
photographers, but would rather be artists, who can invent rather than
report.? I like the challenge of making the best of an existing situation, 
and have little interest in pictures drastically manipulated after the fact.
