Tina. 

It's very common for Motor vehicle accident victims to be very sore and 
bruised for days/weeks after the event. If you could walk on your knees 
immediately after the accident, you're unlikely to have done anything 
serious to your new joints. However if your inability to weight bear 
continues, then you'll need to see someone. In the meantime, take some 
non-steroidals (like Brufen), assuming you have no aspirin/non-steroidal 
allergy and assuming you don't have bad asthma.
