Herbert as you've discovered, paper sizes are shifting from traditional
proportions (which never fitted 35mm for example well) to newer ones often
more closely aligned to standard papers proportions rather than what fitted
''medium format' negatives in 1950 or something ;-)
3:2 fits really well into the DIN paper sizings of Europe and the rest of
the metric world (of course USA goes its own way).

As far as non-trivial bitch number two that is something to take up with
Apple rather than Adobe ;-)
FWIW LR3 does have some very useful improvements for M9 files especially but
of course is not compulsory.
LR2.7 which is a free upgrade for you has many of the improvements (noise
reduction etc) that are part of LR3 so if you don't choose to updtae your OS
you will still get much of the benefits that are part of LR3. If you do
choose to update your OS (and computer?) Leica will shortly provide LR3 for
you using your M9 entitlement.
 Cheers
Geoff
