Subject: [Leica] OT Sony ICF-SW77 Short Wave Radio

I'm afraid the porcelain insulators are now very hard to find and most hams
now use the white pvc insulators which are readily available for wire
antennas. These work just fine and are very durable.

Be sure to pull the old batteries (if you haven't already), check the
battery compartment for signs of white powder and clean it thoroughly, dry
well and put fresh, shiny new batteries in it .

The included long wire antenna ain't so bad. Try it first.

Then go ahead with the big outdoor one if you need better reception. Be
sure to use porcelain insulators to isolate the actual antenna wire between
the physical connections point and the actual connection to the radio.
You'll need a RJ to plug adaptor. Bring the factory-supplied plug with you
and hopefully the Radio Shack or Fry's person will be able to fix you up
with the correct RJ to Sony connector.

Have fun. Some strange and fascinating stuff out there in the ether...
