Okaaaay, but I use Gmail in the default formatting (I do not select the
Plain text option), copy URLs into the messages and have one in my Sig
Block and those go through fine.

 It is normal behaviour in Gmail that, when you send a message it is visible
in your Sent Mail folder only. Then if you get replies it becomes the first
entry in the thread of that conversation in you In Box.
Separate to that Brian's LUG options include whether or not you receive
copies of posts that you send and of course there can be delays with various
servers as we know. Gmail in fact recently went through some upgrade
process to improve responsiveness too.
