My 24-85 AF-S G came apart on me. Literally fell into a few pieces
after I had shot with it for only a few months. I went back to shooting
my manual lenses after that.
I never liked the coma or distortion and used it extensively in Guam
while on deployment there. I had to shoot technical photos of civil
engineering projects and it was all but useless since Seabees don't
like to see photos of their new walls bowing in and out.
Waste of money in my opinion and for my particular experience,
everyones' mileage will vary though. I went back to my 20mm f/3.5, 50mm
f/1.4 and 105 f/2.5 all AIS which never let me down.
