Subject: [Leica] OT baffling christmas lights question

something odd is happening right in front of me.
I just bought a string of christmas LED lights in a transparent box.
It contains about a hundred tiny LEd's  in a string with crhistmessy leaf
junk attached to it.
It is connected to a box that needs 4 AA batteries.
The box is transperrent plastic.
When I squeeze the box slightly.
The LED's all light but without any Batteries!?!?!
What causes this?
Some weird piezo e;ectric effect static from the box ? I'm clue less
