I am not sure I understand your distinction. Euros is the only measure that 
matters.

GM sold more cars than anybody but Toyota in 2008 but still went bankrupts 
and had to be nationalized. Much smaller companies were more profitable. The 
number of units is therefore irrelevant. The key is to get your costs in 
line with the sales volume you can reasonably expect.
