Subject: [Leica] Quick update on Review LA

I went to Review LA and it was a blast. As I have mentioned a few times in
the last few months, I spent a lot of effort trying to get good B&W inkjet
prints. I went through many iterations, including getting some very good
constructive <strike>thrashing</strike> criticism from Slobodan (thanks!)
just a week prior (I pulled out a couple prints, cropped a couple to make
them stronger, and tweaked another half a dozen some more tonal wise...) and
the good news is that everyone has very positive comments about the print
quality. A couple reviewers have seen my work in as late as last August and
both said the print quality is miles ahead. Very gratifying after all the
blood, sweat, and tears, Plus all but one image was taken in 2010, and most
were taken after June. I feel good about that too....

Now that particular technical challenge is under control (and of course I
know I will continue to improve on it), my next goal in the next few months
is doing more themed project. I have a few pieces started on a San Francisco
with emphasis on Chinatown already (see below) so I will be going up to the
City more in the next few weeks / months. Seascapes would be fun too, as
well as a few other ideas.

Back to Review LA etc. - no less than 3 people, who are accomplished
darkroom printers, initially thought that my prints are silver darkroom
prints. Another great feeling!

Happening at the same time and across the street was Photo LA. A wonderful
venue to see many photos from galleries from as far as Netherland and China.
I have my own thoughts about it which I will blog later, but this blog from
John Camp is a good summary:

My thoughts: "B&W Prints are dead. Long live B&W prints." More later.

(*) here's the latest one, not quite finished with post but good enough to
show? Title: "Sentries"
