What we heard when we visited.....

When NZ entered into the Winery Biz ( about 20?  Years ago) they asked for
corks.  The cork sellers either would not sell them due to sold out
condition on corks, or they wanted to sell them junk corks, or just did not
want to play in NZ.  So the NZ Wineries decided to go it all screw off
caps.... and never looked back.

BTW, NZ Sauvignon Blanc wines are purely heavenly for really fragrant, not
syrupy,  and not too sweet character....   You just need to find one that
fits your taste profile....

In NZ we have mostly moved to the screw cap (claimed to be more hygienic)
and only the more costly wines still have corks.....
