Subject: [Leica] Cannot upgrade M8 firmware-- Now done it!

So I did that, I put the M8 firmware upgrade on the card while in the
M9 was set up as a Mass Storage device. I put the card back in the
M8, and it asked if I want to upgrade. Said it was successful.
Restarted the M8, it's now on Firmware 2.014.

I notice a problem with the new firmware, at least for me. After I
took a shot, before the upgrade, I was able to scroll the thumbwheel
and zoom into the image. Now, after the upgrade, I take a shot and
wait for the screen to go black, and then have to press play in order
to zoom in. Seems like a downgrade to me! Still, it's amazing how
sharp images seem on the M8 screen compared to the M9 screen.
Different story once uploaded to the computer, of course.

Ahh, now I notice something. When set to JPG, I cannot zoom in on the
first preview image (the one that displays automatically after the
shot is taken). But back in DNG mode, I can zoom in with that first
image preview. Not sure if zooming in on that first, automatic,
preview was possible before the upgrade, but it isn't possible now. I
only ever use/used DNG. It was on JPG because Frank suggested I Reset
the camera.

I'll be trying to sell the M8 on Yahoo Auction as soon as a friend can
help me do a write-up for it in Japanese. I like the camera, but I
have an M3, M6, M7J, and M9. The M8 never gets used these days. It
has Leica warranty until mid-August, so it should be a good buy for
someone here in Nippon.
