Not sure if this would work if you have another opportunity to shoot the cat in the place. Have some one out with you and they have a small flash light. You don't want a big flashlight, just something to put a tiny bit of light to see if the "cat's eyes will reflect the light back to yuor camera?? Just imagine this photo you posted with just enough light to see the two eyes shining back at you?
