Hi Phil,
Thanks for the comment. I have the old set ups too - the redoubtable
Leica 100 Elmarit APO complete with
Elpro 1:1 - and I couldn't likely take the bee on flower picture with
that set up because it would take too long to focus
and the bee would be long gone. With the GH2 and the 14 - 140 I just
twisted the dial to macro, extended the lens
to 140 and fired away! And, the quality of the image from the tiny
pixel packed micro 4/3rds sensor isn't half bad either!
For the hummers I use the GH2 and the 100 - 300 pana zoom (300 = 600mm
in 35mm terms). When I started I manually
focused on the flowers and waited for the hummers to fly into focus.
Given their flying speed that pretty much
limited me to one set up angle. One time, I wasn't ready and had the
camera on AF when the hummers came and I fired away.
The proportion of sharp photos was greater than on manual and I could
vary the framing instantly. So now that is what I do.
I am very grateful that the technology is advancing faster than my
physical abilities are diminishing!!
Cheers
Howard
