[Leica] IMG: Weird Wednesday

These iron sculptures line the shores of Hessian Lake in New York's Bear
Mountain park. Hessian Lake is a beautiful little body of water in the
Adirondack foothills, named after a minor skirmish in the Revolutionary War.
A small body of Colonials delayed a Hessian battalion en route to attack
West Point. The delay was enough to enable West Point to get its defenses in
order and repel the attack. Most likely the Hessians, paid mercenaries,
didn't have their heart in fighting. They preferred drinking and carousing
to actual shooting. Many liked the countryside so much that after the war
they refused to return to Europe, married local girls, and settled in the
area, further confusing the local gene pool.

Hessian Lake is a favorite picnic destination. The first stern looking owl
is actually a barbecue.
