I don't think Jim is making fun of his subjects, just documenting them.  In
this case, he is documenting her pride.  Even with some of Jim's other
photos, what we see as reason for ridicule, others might see as reason for
pride.  I'm sure many of his subjects are very proud of their tattoos, cars,
t-shirts, etc.  Not ridicule at all.
