IIRC you bought the Martin Evening book on LR3.  His discussion of how to do
this is the gold standard for me.

I have his book on Kindle so I'm not sure I can give you page numbers that
translate to the printed page but it appears that Chapter 5 on Catalogs
contains the explanations you want.
