Re: eyeglass wearing, I believe it has a great deal to do with reading a lot
in the earlier years. Looking at things close up for hours on end seems to
cause eyestrain, while doing a lot of long-distance viewing is less
stressful on the eye.

A large majority of orthodox Jews _- who spend much of their time studying
texts in smallish print -- wear eyeglasses. Very few Inuit -- who look at
things in the distance much of the time -- wear eyeglasses and, indeed, have
remarkable eyesight. With the introduction of television and, more recently,
the computer, this is changing.
