I'm a PS/LR lightweight. Do you primarily have Contrast/Brightness, curves, 
and Shadow/Highlight as tools (not counting the myriad plug-ins)?  I admit 
to always using color mode in digital photography, but suspect that shooting 
in monochrome/grayscale/BW mode would give me fewer things to ... screw up 
in PS/LR. I'm not being facetious here. PS in the hands of a novice can be 
destructive.
