For the whole gallery without the little travelogue
(and more than just the selected shots) - click on this
link:

and work your way through it (it's more or less
chronological).

Here's a selection.

The city of Eisenach simply in the state of Thuringia
simply oozes history.

It's the birthplace and home of Johann Sebastian Bach:

The city where Martin Luther went to school:

Where composer Richard Wagner spent many a holiday:

Home of the Wartburg, where Martin Luther was hidden
from the Catholics and translated the Latin Bible into
German:

Home of the memorial to the members of the student
movement (Corps) and others who were killed in the
struggle for a united Germany between 1864 to 1871 -
the architecture is said to be based on a beer "stein"
- fencing and beer still play an enormous role in
student corps:

Anyway, Jens, a friend of mine for over 35 years
invited us down to Eisenach and asked my Missus,
Frauke, to read from her first book and present the
second in his bookshop:

Getting there:

We never use the autobahn, so we take the scenic routes
and make a couple of stops along the way.

The first was for a coffee in Einbeck, a small town
famous for its brewing excellence - the name "Bock" for
a kind of beer is derived from the ancient name of
Einbeck, "Einb?ck".

The old brewery - "Brauhaus":

The Marktplatz:

Our hotel in Eisenach - recommendable -very clean and
comfortable family hotel with wonderful K?stritzer
black beer on draught and excellent steaks:

The city has lots of narrow streets with a mixture of
historical and modern buildings - from 15th century,
baroque, renaissance, Imperial and Jugendstil to
GDR-utility and modern developments after German
reunification:
