So it is really a mute point until he or someone else decides to enter this particular product line. For instance, from what I understand Mr. K at Cosmia breaks even with one production run of any of his lenses. It's even been done (an M digital camera outside of Solms) with a Cosima body via Epson, with their 2x sensor of a decade or more ago. The technology to make a ff M sensor is now several years old and, from recent indications, no longer just proprietary to Kodak. In computer chip technology it's practically a methusulah. There's little cutting edge about it. Today's markets are now defined by tiny slices of tiny slices, particularly for a niche product like a camera. Even in Leica's film heyday I doubt their market share was more than 1%, if that--competing against legions of box Brownies and similar low-end products. The M9 sensor (and now Max for the M) are unique due to the particular requirements to make M lenses work correctly on a 24x36 sensor. I think it just does not make economic sense for any other manufacturer to compete directly in that tiny niche. I think that Dr Kaufmann recently quoted that Leica Camera has doubled heir market share.... all the way to 0.2% now!
