I've been wanting a second small digital camera that would provide DNG
output, but was not happy about spending approx. $500. This was to enable
the "have a camera always with you" philosophy, and I'm just not ready to do
that with my M9. For instance, my sense of balance ain't what it used to be,
and I go hiking in strange places where there's a good chance of falling.
Hate to fall while wearing an M9. Tina may say that she slings her M on her
shoulder, rain or shine, but if something happens to her camera, she gets
preferential repair treatment from Leica and a loaner.

One day, I heard about a hack for Canon point & shoots that will enable
provision of RAW. I took a chance on a Canon SX260 a bit under $200, which
has convenient settings for a) aperture priority, b) shutter speed priority,
both of these also having convenient exposure compensation by 1/3 stop to +
or - 2 stops, and finally full manual setting of stop and exposure. To my
pleasure, the hack works and will put out Adobe DNG. There are about a
hundred other things the hack can do, most of them, in my opinion pretty
useless. I picked one other: for chimping, it will splash red on blown
highlights.

For any one who is interested, Google "CHDK"--the acronym stands for "Canon
Hack Development Kit".
