Le Cateau-Cambresis (Northern France close to the Belgium border)
where Matisse was born.

European historians will also remember that it was there that 2 famous
treaties were signed in the 16th century, one between France and
England (Elisabeth 1st) and the other one involving Spain (Philippe
2nd). Altogether they (re)organised political Europe for about a
century.
