The camera I used to
photograph my grand daughter was an Olympus EPL1, a mirrorless micro
4/3 camera with a kit 14 to 42 mm lens. When set to the automatic mode
in which the camera sets exposure, focuses and stops down the lens, the
average shutter lag was .76 seconds. In program mode it was slightly
faster, .63 seconds.

I have the same camera Larry. I didn't really notice much lag at first
because I used Program mode from the start, and also because I habitually
prefocus. When I added a 20mm Lumix 1.7, though, the lag became quite
noticeable, especially in bright sunlight (much quicker in dim light).

I recently acquired a Canon G15 and lag is now much less of an issue, and
the G is now my carry-everywhere cam.
