Those times started at least a decade ago. Newspapers are really going to 
hell. Going back to the '90s, my wife, teaching at a community college, had 
to interrupt a near fist fight between a pair of students, one of whom was 
the verbal aggressor. Later, she found out why the guy was so hair-trigger: 
he was an editor at the local newspaper, the (San Jose) Mercury News, and 
had just been laid off. It seemed they didn't need editors any longer. A 
computer could do the spell checking.
