Subject: [Leica] DMR-Leica service

Thanks Jim,

I was kind of assuming I would have to send both. The problem in mine is
electronic, but I think it is a bad capacitor in the motor unit, as it does
not always completely advance, and requires additional shutter button pushes
to get it completely advanced. The imaging functions are all fine, as I can
manually advance the shutter, and it works just fine. i would hope the
motor issue can be fixed as no exotic components are used there, and they
should be readily available.

Gene,

I know you're asking Gary what he sent in to Leica, but I'll chime in here
with my example. I sent both my R8 and DMR as a package, since I didn't know
as a joint "system" what might be wrong. And that's when they returned the
two units with the cryptic note that said the DMR was unrepairable. Cause
unspecified, except for a note about it being the electronics.

You could have just taken a couple of cotton swabs with alcohol and cleaned
them yourself. Five minutes and done. But it is good to hear they are
still doing some repair work. I may just have to send mine in and see if
they can fix the Motor Drive issue. Did you send in the R8/9 body also or
just the DMR?

The contacts between the power unit and sensor back were not making a
connection. I sent to NJ, and a couple weeks later, they called, said they'd
send to Germany.
Couple more weeks I got another call (and written 'estimate') They would
clean and adjust DMR, no cost and no warranty.
The DMR came back today (2 months total that it was gone). It works
beautifully, and to my surprise, they either refinished the housing, or
replaced. It looks brand new.
It had been scratched, dinged, and scraped.
We hear some not so good stories about Leica service, so I thought I'd throw
in a good one :)
