Putting a zoom on an X does not as Leica specifically stated put it between
an M and an X.
it put it between an X and a Panasonic Lumix.
Super bad thinking on the part of Leica.
Not a step up from an X but two steps down.
The stock holders will be happy about the lowering of the Brand.

Whenever the classic point and shoots, Contax T, Nikon T, Ricoh GR, Minox 35
finally sold out with a zoom model which of course brought in the big bucks
from the idiot crowds they were widely ignored and reviled by the
connoisseurs; it was not good news.
A fast unobtrusive and elegant camera became slow and bulgy.
It was "time to make some money and pay some bills" news.

Instead of a drum roll Leica needed to sneak this out with a whisper. While
everyone was on vacation.

... A few of the famous film super compact 35's never came out in zoom
versions. The Rollei 35 was one and I think also the Minox 35.
