Supposedly about mermaids and King Neptunes, it was originally a promotional idea for the beginning of the Summer season circa 1910. The parade was revived in the early 80s, mainly as a hipster goof, and has grown exponentially since then. Last year it attracted 750,000 viewers along Surf Ave. and the Boardwalk.
