Nathan,

The "New" designation stays up for seven days.  If, at that point, an image 
has turned out to be a disappointment, I frequently delete it.  Sometimes I 
will post an image just as an illustration of some point being made.  Those 
also come down.  Sorry to disappoint you after your holiday.
