This is indeed trivial after hearing about Gerry's wife Pat. I have
lived long enough to lose parents, relatives, siblings, and most of my
friends so I know how devastating an unexpected death can be. Again,
Gerry, you have my sincere condolences.

My niece's one eyed race horse, Ruby, died over the weekend of equine
encephalitis. Ruby was the granddaughter of Seattle Slew but because
she had lost an eye as a colt none of the large stables wanted to buy
her. She was destined for a can of Alpo until my niece put in a low bid
to claim her. Ruby showed real promise as a race horse. Not too good in
the middle of the pack because of her poor depth perception but once
she got in front, no other horse could catch her. She won her sixth
race of the year on August 27 and was prepping for the next race to be
run Saturday, Sept. 21 when she sickened and died. My niece told me she
cried almost as much for the death of her horse as she did for her
mother.
