For those following this thread....

I called Adobe and chatted for help.  Cut myself off ( reboot) once, spent 2
hours "fixing" the problem.

Whatever it is about my wireless router, THAT was  the problem.

Ran a RJ45 from my computer to the cable modem, and it all worked!  Nothing
else was touched.

Updated CS completely, and also LR4.

Now I have ACR 8.5 and life is good.
