Agreed George, I'm personally overly sensitive and I tend to stop
photographing if I catch a nasty vibe and so I tend to stop before anyone
has to ask me. In the case when someone asks to refrain from photography
the request has to have some legitimate associated ethical grounds. When
I'm walking through the Hasidic community near my home I tend never to
photograph because I know they are particularly sensitive. If I do make a
show of photographing the women and children I will be asked to stop but
there is no ethical issues here. If their religion forbade photography
because it would jeopardize their entrance to the kingdom of heaven then
ignoring their request to stop might be considered unethical...but perhaps
not for me who doesn't believe in heaven or hell. I think ethics in this
case is too heavy handed when the true issue is being respectful.
