I had also read ( though don't remember the source) that film sales
increased last year over the previous year, the first time that happened in
years. My local camera store now stocks more film, and the manager says
it's moving well, including 120. Granted, it's a fraction of 1999s sales,
but enough to keep the stock rotated. We may see further consolidation in
the market, especially Fuji's disappearance from silver halide (adding
insult to injury, calling their digital cameras Fujifilm), but it appears
for now there may be enough room for a few players, notably Kodak Alera,
Ilford, and Foma. I hope an irrational film panic continues, however,
since I'd love to score a nice M7 for a grand.
