I do not think it depends on the printer, but the guy doing his processing - 
at least Genesis was totally digital, if I am not mistaken. Pushing the 
Shadows and the Highlights sliders to 100% each will get you started in the 
right direction! :-) Seriously, though, that sort of overwrought drama is 
easily possible with Silver Efex Pro, at least.

A large part of the advantage that someone like Salgado has over you and me 
is access - some of the polar photographs in Genesis are taken in places 
that are strictly off limits for mere mortals. The other advantage is the 
ability to hang around as long as it takes to get the shot - but that is the 
difference between a top pro and an amateur...
