Thanks for trying this, Jay.  I am glad it works for you.  But I was also 
hoping I was not some isolated case that will never get solved.

I know it took some time for you to do this, so thanks again.

Using LR 2015.3 (current CC version) and it exported and played a 77
image slideshow fine, any resolution, with or without music. Tried
several versions.
Took a while to process each of them, but it never stalled.

Windows 10 and I do have the graphics processor option on.
