Hi Ken,

Well mon ami, I started to write what I thought might be an intelligent
letter in answer to yours. Then realized I was in a completely "N0-WIN"
position. Why?

Well you are quite correct in today's "brainless idiot minded society of
marketing."

The masses do not buy due to the truth, but by the "BULLSHIT WRITTEN BY
MARKETING PEOPLE" That's partially why humans of the planet are where they
are today? DEEP CRAP!:-(

Completely in the hands of the "extremely highly paid "BULLSHIT ADVERTISING
ARTISTS" of companies no matter what product is being marketed?

So please buy a LEICA, CERTAINLY THE SL 601! As everything I have read
about it, if I bought one I could become a "PULITZER WINNING PHOTOGRAPHER!"
Well that was close.

Oh the photographer? I don't quite remember, but they had some photos of his
old cars and wrecked looking beaches? I'm sure you may detect a touch of
sarcasm? J

cheers, have a nice day as that's what I'm going to do. Oh yeah and maybe
take a few happy snaps with my most incredible M8 LEICA! J And my Leica
NOCTILUX F 1.0 lens? J

Kindest regards,,

Dr. ted grant O.C.

Well, Ted,

These "marketing/executive people" are who they are, as a reflection of the

reality of the marketplace.

The reality is similar to manufacturers who create expensive professional

tools: like Steinway, B?sendorfer, and other makers of concert-quality

pianos. They cannot survive selling to artists only, as the number of

artists who can actually afford concert grand pianos that cost $150,000 or

more is very low. So, they have to create special editions which generate

more profit, and use the likes of famous pop artists (in addition to

popular classical artists) to sell their pianos to non-players.

I was a bit flabbergasted, but shouldn't have been surprised when I heard

that 2/3 of B?sendorfers are sold to people who can't play a single note,

and just about all "special editions" are sold to non-players.

Sounds familiar?

So, it's no surprise that Leica uses famous people who dabble at

photography to sell their equipment. Photographers are a small share of

their target market.
